The next set of vows in this series is from a wedding in October 2016. If you want to know more about this series, check out previous entries here!
A reminder: these vows are published to inspire you and provide you with some ideas for writing your vows; they’re not here so you can copy them word for word! Please also remember these don’t include the legally required vows – those words generally go at the start of these ones.
From the first day we met, after attempting to play footy, when you insulted me by calling me a paedophile when I offered you some very special candy [editor’s note: believe me, there’s a very funny story attached to that comment], I thought that this could actually be love at first sight. The rest is our history.
You are my one and only tracksuit wearing sleeping beauty, my hunch on my back and the only person who keeps me in line and doesn’t put up with my shit. From this day forward, going into our lives together as we take the next step, I vow to you the following things:
To stand by your side through whatever challenges life throws at us, as we grow old together and strive to become professional bingo players.
To “try” to laugh at your horrible jokes.
To love you, as you deserve to be loved with respect and passion, and to treat you like the beautiful, sleepy little person you are.
To remain loyal to you physical, emotionally and spiritually.
To take you seriously when you need to be taken seriously
To pick you up when you are down
And last but definitely not least – my favourite – to make you smile and laugh for the rest of our lives!
I want to be with you always, just as you are. I choose you above ALL others to share my life in marriage. I love you for yourself, and I want you to become all that you can be. I promise to honour this pledge as long as I live.
Stinky, I take you to be my best friend, my faithful partner and teammate, my one true love.
I promise to encourage you and inspire you and never stop loving you through the good times and the bad.
I will continue to give your back and head tickles even though it gives me a dead arm.
I promise to remember that neither one of us is perfect, but strive to remember the reasons why we are perfect for each other.
I promise I will stop bringing more pets home unless you say yes first.
I will forever be lingering in your personal space to laugh with you, to lift you up when you are down, and to love you unconditionally through all of our adventures in life together.
