Getting married at the Victorian Marriage Registry

The Victorian Marriage Registry is run by the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

What does the Victorian Marriage Registry Office provide?

• The Registry Office provides simple, standard, civil marriage ceremonies in the Old Treasury Building in Melbourne.
• There are three ceremony options: Classic, Alternative, Legals Only.
• Whichever ceremony you choose, it won’t be personalised in terms of telling your story.
• If you need an interpreter, only the Alternative or Legals Only ceremonies are available.
• You can add personal vows up to a maximum of 150 words to the Classic ceremony.
• You can add a reading up to a maximum of 150 words to the Classic ceremony.
• You can add music to the Classic ceremony; you’ll need to bring it and a speaker, and someone to press play.
• The number of guests you can bring depends on the room you book.
• Food and drink are not permitted.
• You won’t be able to choose your celebrant; you get whoever is on duty on the day.
• Your guests may not throw confetti, rice or rose petals, nor bring balloons or blow bubbles.
• You will need to fill in your own Notice of Intended Marriage.
• If you need an interpreter, you will need to fill in your own Statutory Declaration and Certificate of Faithful Performance by Interpreter.
• It is more expensive to get married on the weekend than during the week.

• I provide whatever kind of ceremony you want, wherever you want in Greater Melbourne. I can marry you in a wedding venue, in a park, in a restaurant, in a shop, or in your backyard: the choice is yours.
• I have three ceremony options: Premium, Short & Sweet, Legals Only.
• If you choose my Premium ceremony, it will be fully personalised to your requirements. This includes me telling your story if you want me to.
• If you need an interpreter, I’ll work with them at whichever kind of ceremony you choose.
• You can add personal vows of any length to any of my ceremonies.
• You can a reading or multiple readings or any length to any of my ceremonies.
• I include music in my Premium and Short & Sweet ceremonies; I will organise it for you, bring my speaker, and press play.
• You can have as few or as many guests as you like at any of my ceremonies. I say my Legals Only ceremony is restricted to 10 guests, but you can have as many as you like as long as you tell them it’s not very interesting 🙂
• Bring all the food and all the drinks! Let’s celebrate!
• You get to choose me because I’m the celebrant you click with.
• Your guests can throw or blow whatever they want (except balloons because that’s illegal).
• I fill in all the legally required paperwork for you. I am a control freak and that way I know it’s correct. It’s one more thing you don’t have to worry about!
• My fees are the same regardless of what day or time you choose to get married.
