I give you my word wedding vows

awesome wedding vows
This entry is part 4 of 59 in the series Awesome Wedding Vows

Here’s the next set of awesome wedding vows in my series of amazing (de-identified) vows from one of my beautiful couples!

Some of my couples have written such incredible words of love and promise, and I thought they’d act as great inspiration for other couples who have no idea where to start when writing their own vows. While I provide all my couples with a vow pack that contains questions to get you started and loads of individual sentences that can be put together to create vows (and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that), the vows in this series all include the kind of personal touches that I think make wedding vows beautiful and genuine. To me, the most successful vows are personal, from the heart, and written in language the speaker would use in their everyday life.

Also remember: the word vow means promise. While we all love hearing all the reasons you love your partner, your vows are your chance to tell your partner all the things you are promising them for your lives together into the future. Don’t forget the promises!

A reminder: these vows are published to inspire you and provide you with some ideas for writing your vows. They’re not here so you can copy them word for word!

Also remember these don’t include the legally required vows – those words generally go at the start of these ones.

Party 1

I once made a promise to myself that if I ever met that special person who I could come home to and talk to about my day, share my guilty pleasures with and be loved unconditionally by, that I would spend the rest of my life making them my first priority; I would give them the world, making them the happiest they could possibly be.

As I think back on our years together, I realise that those three wishes I always had about meeting that right person, well, you checked them all off while we were still friends, and that was enough for me to understand that you are that special person I have been looking for all my life.

You are the most caring, loving and funniest person I have ever met. You complement my twisted personality. You have built confidence within myself to achieve what I never thought possible, and have taught me serenity within my body, mind and soul. Our journey has been a long and difficult road together, and I cannot wait to see what shenanigans we get up to next.

The one true merit a man has in his life is his word. I have always believed and lived by this, and here today I make you a promise: I give you my word that as my wife, but more importantly my best friend, in this life and in the next, every day I will pine for you, love you unconditionally, comfort you when needed, and most importantly explore the vast reaches of this world and beyond (if of course space travel is possible when we are seniors).

I love you so very much. With all my heart and all of my soul I thank you for marrying me.

Party 2

From the moment I met you, each day has been better than the last. You’ve made me feel more than I ever thought possible. The few lows we’ve had made me feel lower than I’ve ever felt, but the highs have been higher, longer, better and brighter than I ever would have thought possible.

As my best friend, my closest confidant, my partner in crime and the light of my life, I promise the following:

I promise to listen to you, and hear both what you tell me, and what you don’t; to share what I’m thinking when possible; and always ask your advice before making decisions that impact our lives…

I promise to help you be the best version of yourself, to support you when you need it, and pull you back when you go too far; to find ways to make you laugh each and every day, and ensure you never feel lonely, even in the times you may be alone…

I promise to nurse you through flu seasons, both real and imagined, and sympathise with every paper cut, banged knee and bruise; to keep you safe and comfortable, while harassing every doctor, nurse, pharmacist and orderly until you are better…

I promise to stand with you against the world, and wait till we’re in private to argue; that on the days I’m blazingly mad, to go find a snack first just in case it’s the hunger talking, and on the days you in turn get antsy, guilt you into going to the gym to work it off…

I promise to fight fair when we argue over the small stuff, such as whose turn it is to clean up after the dogs we don’t have yet, and when we’re lost in some random city where no-one speaks English, I will maintain my “we’re not lost, we’re exploring!” attitude while calmly looking for a taxi to get us the heck out of there…

Above all, I will love you in all the years to come – on good days and bad, through epic travels, and the grey days at work we’ll need to pay for them; through every challenge we’ll face and goal that we’ll reach both together and apart…

With these words, I choose you to grow with, and to love forever.
