A story together wedding vows

awesome wedding vows
This entry is part 68 of 71 in the series Awesome Wedding Vows

Here’s the next set of awesome wedding vows in my series of amazing (de-identified) vows from one of my beautiful couples!

Some of my couples have written such incredible words of love and promise, and I thought they’d act as great inspiration for other couples who have no idea where to start when writing their own vows. While I provide all my couples with a vow pack that contains questions to get you started and loads of individual sentences that can be put together to create vows (and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that), the vows in this series all include the kind of personal touches that I think make wedding vows beautiful and genuine. To me, the most successful vows are personal, from the heart, and written in language the speaker would use in their everyday life.

Also remember: the word vow means promise. While we all love hearing all the reasons you love your partner, your vows are your chance to tell your partner all the things you are promising them for your lives together into the future. Don’t forget the promises!

A reminder: these vows are published to inspire you and provide you with some ideas for writing your vows. They’re not here so you can copy them word for word!

Also remember these don’t include the legally required vows – those words generally go at the start of these ones.

Party 1

We have made a story together from thousands of small, good things. Laughter in the kitchen. Our girls growing into their magnificence. Sharing music. Endless cups of coffee. One or two glasses of wine. So many plans and projects.

Together, we’ve built a family and a home. We have weathered loss and faced illness. We have loved our people. We made community and connection. Above all we have kept showing up. We’ve lived our vows long before today. We have lived them in the way we’ve held each other steady through joy and struggle.

I love you. I love that you are serious and silly; fierce and kind; thoughtful and brave. We see each other so clearly. And after all this time we keep liking what we see.

So today I promise to you what I’ve promised every day for the past 19 years. I promise to always be on your side. To learn with you. To grow with you. To keep making our every day something worth celebrating.

I love you and will always love you — in the occasional quiet, in the regular chaos, and in the ordinary magic of our life together.

Party 2

From the moment we met, I knew life with you would never be boring. You are clever and curious, kind and loving to your friends and family, and a generous and warm host who always makes people feel welcome. You’re also the rock I lean on in a crisis — steady, dependable, and strong.

I love your quick wit and cheeky grin, the way you make me laugh, and your knack for collecting not just objects but also hobbies (yes, even the snow tent). You are endlessly interesting, endlessly surprising, and endlessly you.

After 19 years of laughter, love, making babies and a home, a thousand conversations, rough patches, illness, and even a pandemic — I still choose you.

With the bunions on my feet, the grey in my hair, and love in my heart, I promise to love you as you are and as we grow.

I’ll listen, I’ll help, I’ll talk (probably too much), and yes, I’ll boss you around just a little.

Through it all, you are still my favourite person — and I promise to walk beside you, to share the joy and weather the storms, for all my days.
